Thinking About Living in San Diego Country Club?
Get connected with a local real-estate specialist who understands San Diego Country Club and the surrounding Coastal San Diego / La Jolla / Coronado golf market.
San Diego Country Club traces to 1897, when it was founded as the city's first country club on land now occupied by Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Displaced by preparations for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, the club relocated permanently to a 150-plus-acre Chula Vista site on San Diego Bay, opening its William Watson-designed course there on September 3, 1921. It remains, per the club's own materials, the only private country club in South San Diego County.
Golf & Course
The course, designed by William Watson and opened in 1921, has its own PGA Tour history: the tournament that became today's Farmers Insurance Open began at San Diego Country Club in 1952 as the San Diego Open, before later moving to Torrey Pines.
Membership & Access
Does buying a home here include club membership?
Membership is by invitation or sponsorship only, with an application process; the club does not appear to publish an open-enrollment path.
Location & Surrounding Area
The club sits on San Diego Bay in Chula Vista, in San Diego's South Bay -- a meaningfully different geography and market character than the La Jolla/coastal core of this page, joined here for market-routing reasons rather than shared coastal identity.

What Buyers Should Verify
- Confirm current initiation fee and annual dues directly with the club -- third-party sources conflict sharply (estimates range from about $10,000 to $100,000) and none is an official rate sheet.
- Confirm hole count, gated status, and whether any specific residential development is associated with the club -- not independently confirmed this session.
- Confirm current membership waitlist/availability directly with the club.
