The Landings Club is the golf and athletic club anchoring The Landings, a large gated community occupying most of Skidaway Island south of downtown Savannah. Six 18-hole private courses -- including two Arnold Palmer designs -- plus 42 tennis courts, pickleball, bocce, two deepwater marinas, and extensive trail networks make it one of the largest single golf-and-lifestyle clubs in coastal Georgia. It is the closest Savannah-market analogue to the multi-course flagship pattern seen at communities like Reynolds Lake Oconee, modeled here as one parent club entity across all six courses rather than six separate anchor records.

Golf & Course

Marshwood, the original course, opened in 1974 as an Arnold Palmer/Frank Duane collaboration and was redesigned by Tim Liddy in 2003. Terrapin Point (Willard Byrd, opened 1982) is the only links-style course on the property, running to the island's tip. Magnolia (Palmer with Ed Seay, opened in stages 1977-1979) was restored by Brandon Johnson of the Arnold Palmer Design Company in 2021. Oakridge and Palmetto were both designed by Arthur Hills (Oakridge 1988, Palmetto 1985); Palmetto reopened after a 2023 Bill Bergin restoration. Deer Creek, a Tom Fazio design opened in 1991, is the club's championship course and has hosted the Club Car Championship at The Landings Club, a Korn Ferry Tour event.

Membership & Access

Does buying a home here include club membership?

No — homeownership does not automatically include membership. See details below.

Full Golf, Associate Golf, National Golf, and Athletic membership categories exist. The membership pool is primarily Landings residents, but the club also sells a capped number of Full Club and Athletic memberships to non-property owners -- reportedly capped near 100 since a post-Great-Recession policy change -- and a National category for applicants living more than 75 miles from the community who may not own Landings property. Owning a home in The Landings does not automatically confer club membership; it is a separate application and fee.

Living in The Landings Club

The Landings spans roughly 4,000-plus residences -- townhouses, patio homes, single-family homes, and estate lots -- built out by the Branigar Organization starting in 1972 and turned over to the homeowners association in 1995. It is a gated, marsh-and-live-oak island community distinct from, but adjacent to, less exclusive Wilmington Island and central Savannah.

Lifestyle & Amenities

Beyond the six courses, amenities include 42 tennis courts, pickleball and bocce courts, indoor and outdoor pools, two deepwater marinas, and miles of walking/biking trails -- a broad athletic-club identity, not a golf-only club.

Location & Surrounding Area

Located on Skidaway Island, unincorporated Chatham County, roughly 12 miles southeast of downtown Savannah via the Diamond Causeway.

Costs & Fees

Figures below are labeled Current only when the source itself frames them as presently accurate. Everything else is labeled Historical — a source checked today does not make an old fee a current one.

Golf membership initiation

Current

$80,000

Full Golf membership initiation fee, reported by a golf-travel writer covering the club's current (2026) figures -- not the club's own published fee schedule (WebFetch to thelandings.com/members.landingsclub.com was blocked). An older 'CLUB INITIATION FEES (Effective 1.1.2023)' PDF exists at boomtown-production-consumer-backup.s3.amazonaws.com but its contents could not be read directly this session; a separate third-party aggregator (countryclubcontent.com) describes Full Golf initiation as 'over $55,000' with no clear effective date, which is materially lower and may reflect an older figure -- flag as a minor figure discrepancy for direct confirmation with the club.

Initiation (range low)

Current

$35,000

National Golf membership initiation fee (lowest published tier), per the same source as initiation_fee.

Initiation (range high)

Current

$80,000

Full Golf membership initiation fee (highest published tier).

What Buyers Should Verify

  • Confirm current initiation fees and annual dues directly with the club -- this session relied on third-party press coverage, not the club's own fee schedule.
  • Confirm the current non-property-owner membership cap and any active waitlist.
  • Confirm whether membership transfers with property resale or requires a fresh application.

Notable

  • Six 18-hole private courses under one club, including two Arnold Palmer designs.
  • Deer Creek has hosted the Club Car Championship at The Landings Club, a Korn Ferry Tour event.
  • The former 'Plantation' course was renamed Terrapin Point; the original course is Marshwood, not 'Marshlands.'
  • A capped number of Full Club and Athletic memberships are sold to non-Landings property owners.
