The Valley Club sits on 205 acres south of Ketchum in Hailey, at the edge of the Sawtooth National Forest. Its original nine-and-nine (North and South Courses) was designed by Hale Irwin with Dick Phelps and Patrick McDonald and opened July 1, 1996; Blaine County Commissioners had approved construction in June 1991 as part of a 99-lot residential subdivision proposed the year before. Tom Fazio added a third nine, the West Nine, in 2007, and a $7.5 million renovation of the original North and South Courses -- led by Davis Love III and Beau Welling, with the South Nine rebuilt in fall 2018 and the North Nine in spring 2019 -- was completed in spring 2020, giving the club three fully modern nines today.
Ownership transitioned from the club's original developer to its own members in 1999, and The Valley Club has operated as a member-owned private club ever since, filing as a nonprofit (Valley Club Inc.) with the IRS. The clubhouse (designed by Ketchum architect Jim McLaughlin, opened June 1996) has been expanded twice, most notably a 13,000-square-foot addition in 2009 with a 10,000-square-foot patio facing Bald Mountain, alongside an 8,500-square-foot fitness center, six tennis courts, and four pickleball courts.
The club sits inside a real, distinct residential subdivision -- also called Valley Club, a 99-lot development approved by Blaine County in 1991 and governed today by its own Valley Club Owners Association (quarterly dues plus a matching capital-reserve assessment, covering the private water system, roads, and common-area landscaping) -- rather than being merely near unrelated houses. That said, lot ownership in the Valley Club subdivision does not itself include or discount golf club membership: getting a membership application requires contacting the club directly, the same process available to any prospective member.
Golf & Course
Three architecturally distinct nines make up The Valley Club's 27 holes: the original Hale Irwin/Dick Phelps/Patrick McDonald North and South Courses (1996, since rebuilt by Davis Love III and Beau Welling in 2018-2020), and Tom Fazio's West Nine (2007).
Membership & Access
Does buying a home here include club membership?
The Valley Club is a fully member-owned private club -- members, not a developer or outside operator, govern and fund the club today. Membership is granted through a separate application process (the club directs prospective members to call or use its own contact page) rather than being included with a Valley Club subdivision lot purchase; this research could not confirm a specific sponsorship or waitlist requirement, or current initiation fee and dues, from sources available this session.
Living in The Valley Club
The Valley Club subdivision -- 99 lots approved by Blaine County Commissioners in June 1991, with construction beginning alongside the golf course in 1994 -- is governed by its own Valley Club Owners Association (managed by Sawtooth Property Services), which collects quarterly HOA and capital-reserve dues covering the private road network, water distribution system, and common-area landscaping. It is a real, name-matched residential development built specifically around the club rather than a case of houses that merely happen to be nearby.
Lifestyle & Amenities
Beyond golf, the club's amenities include an 8,500-square-foot fitness center with lap, spa, and family pools, six tennis courts, four pickleball courts, and a 13,000-square-foot clubhouse addition (2009) with a 10,000-square-foot patio looking toward Bald Mountain.
Location & Surrounding Area
The Valley Club sits at 100 Club View Drive in Hailey, Blaine County, roughly 10 miles south of Sun Valley/Ketchum and close to Friedman Memorial Airport, the Wood River Valley's main air link.

What Buyers Should Verify
- Confirm current membership application process, sponsorship/waitlist requirements, initiation fee, and annual dues directly with The Valley Club -- none were published in sources reviewed this session.
- Confirm whether any preferential access or consideration exists for Valley Club subdivision lot owners specifically -- this research found only that membership requires a separate application, not that lot owners get no consideration at all.
- A Cause IQ/GuideStar snippet referenced approximately 768 members for the club's nonprofit filing; this figure was not independently corroborated against a primary IRS Form 990 document this session and should be treated as low-confidence.
Notable
- Ownership of The Valley Club transitioned from its original developer to its own members in 1999.
- The club's West Nine (2007) was designed by Tom Fazio; a $7.5 million renovation of the original North and South Courses, led by Davis Love III and Beau Welling, was completed in spring 2020.
- The Valley Club subdivision -- a distinct 99-lot residential development -- was approved by Blaine County Commissioners in June 1991, the same era the golf course itself was built.
