The Glen is the roughly 1,121-acre mixed-use redevelopment of the former Naval Air Station Glenview, which operated from 1923 until its 1995 closure. Following more than four years of community-based planning and over 180 public meetings, the Village of Glenview approved a land-use plan in February 1998 combining new residential neighborhoods, the Prairie Glen Corporate Campus, retail centers, a new Metra commuter rail station, the 142-acre Gallery Park, a prairie preserve, and two golf courses -- with The Glen Club, a Tom Fazio design opened in 2001, as the development's golf centerpiece. More than 40 percent of the former base was preserved as public open space or natural habitat.
