Kansas City Country Club, founded May 1, 1896 (originally near what is now Loose Park before relocating to its current Mission Hills site in 1926-27), is one of the oldest private clubs west of the Mississippi River and, alongside Mission Hills Country Club and Indian Hills Country Club, one of the three founding clubs developer J.C. Nichols built the incorporated city of Mission Hills, Kansas around starting in 1914. The current course, designed by A.W. Tillinghast, opened in 1927 as a par-71 layout known for strategic bunkering and elevated greens.
Mission Hills itself is a genuine golf-driven town: Nichols found upscale Kansas-side lots harder to sell than Missouri-side ones in the early 1900s, and built these clubs in part to draw buyers across the state line. That said, this session found no evidence of a current, formal program bundling Kansas City Country Club membership with Mission Hills homeownership — membership today functions as a standard invitation-based private-club product, separate from buying a home in the city.
Golf & Course
A.W. Tillinghast designed the current course, which opened in 1927 to a par-71 routing known for strategic bunkering and elevated greens; the club had relocated to Mission Hills from its original Loose Park-area site in 1926.
Membership & Access
Does buying a home here include club membership?
Kansas City Country Club is a private, invitation-based club; no official fee schedule or bundled-with-homeownership program was found. Historic Mission Hills 'Homes Associations' (deed-restriction and maintenance entities set up by Nichols) are a legally separate system from club membership and should not be assumed to confer golf access.
Living in Kansas City Country Club
Mission Hills is a small, wealthy incorporated Kansas city that developer J.C. Nichols began platting in 1914 explicitly around this and two other country clubs, using strict deed restrictions to shape a high-end, low-density residential fabric that persists essentially unchanged today.
Lifestyle & Amenities
Club materials describe dining facilities; specific additional amenity data (tennis, pool, fitness) was not confirmed this session.
Location & Surrounding Area
Mission Hills, Kansas sits immediately southwest of the Country Club Plaza across the Missouri state line, one of the most historically significant planned communities in the Kansas City metro.
