Mission Hills Country Club, founded June 30, 1914, is the club that gave the city of Mission Hills, Kansas its name — developer J.C. Nichols was the driving force behind its founding at the same time he began platting the surrounding upscale residential subdivision. Nichols found that Kansas-side lots sold less readily than Missouri-side ones in that era, and built the club partly as a draw for buyers willing to cross the state line. The original club footprint actually spanned both states (121 acres in Kansas, 7 in Missouri), with the first clubhouse sited on the Missouri side of that footprint because of looser liquor laws there at the time — a historical quirk that does not change the club's current identity as a Mission Hills, Kansas institution. Tom Bendelow designed the course, a par-70 layout of roughly 6,310 yards.

As with the other two 'big three' Mission Hills clubs, this session found the founding-era, golf-driven town-building story to be genuine and well documented, but found no evidence of a current, formal program bundling club membership with Mission Hills home purchase.
