Tchefuncta Country Club

Tchefuncta Country Club sits within Tchefuncta Club Estates, a gated, shareholder-governed community founded in 1956 when a group of local professionals pooled resources to purchase 900 acres on the Tchefuncte River near Madisonville, just south of Covington -- one of the first recognized gated residential communities in St. Tammany Parish. The club's golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., opened with nine holes in 1961 and was expanded to its current 18-hole, par-71 routing in 1969. In 2021, Tchefuncta Club Estates (the community entity itself, in which every one of its 600-plus property owners holds shareholder status) purchased the country club outright, an unusual governance arrangement that ties the club's ownership -- though not automatic membership -- directly to the surrounding community.

Membership in the club today is private, application-based, and carries real dues, but is explicitly open to both residents and non-residents of Tchefuncta Club Estates, following the same pattern found at Beau Chene: golf access is a genuine, priced barrier to entry, but not one that is bundled into or required by home purchase. The club reports 400-plus members across membership categories including Full, Intermediate, Individual, Junior, Lifestyle, and Out-of-Town tiers. Beyond golf, the club anchors a broader lifestyle amenity set (tennis, pool, fitness, dining) and the community itself includes a private marina with 60-plus covered slips on the Tchefuncte River -- giving Tchefuncta Club Estates a genuine waterfront dimension that Money Hill and Beau Chene do not share to the same degree.
