TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm occupies a genuinely unusual position among Maryland's DC-suburb golf anchors: it is both a real historical PGA Tour venue and, more importantly for a golf-oriented homebuyer today, the literal namesake and centerpiece of Avenel, a 900-home planned community spread across 14 architecturally distinct villages on roughly 1,000 acres in Potomac. Developed by Natelli Communities beginning in the 1980s-90s and recognized with a ULI Award for Excellence, Avenel is governed by its own Community Association and offers residents a park, pool, tennis facility, paved trails, and an equestrian center in addition to the course itself -- this is genuine, well-documented residential bundling, not a proximity claim.

The course's tournament history is real but should be read as historical, not current: it hosted the PGA Tour's Kemper Open/Booz Allen Classic from 1987 to 2006 (with a one-year detour to Congressional Country Club in 2005 during a TPC Potomac renovation), the AT&T National/Quicken Loans National in 2017-18, and stepped in as a substitute host for the Wells Fargo Championship in 2022 when the Presidents Cup schedule shifted. Since 2025, the Wells Fargo Championship (now the Truist Championship) has been permanently anchored at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina -- TPC Potomac is no longer an active PGA Tour stop. The 2007 course redesign drew on input from Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, and PGA Tour players Fred Funk and Davis Love III, and restored the course's historic Rock Run Creek.

No — homeownership does not automatically include membership. See details below.
