Crystal Downs is an unincorporated community of homeowners occupying roughly one square mile of bluff land between Crystal Lake and Lake Michigan, immediately surrounding Crystal Downs Country Club. The neighborhood and the club trace to the same 1920s development era — both associated with Grand Rapids developer Walkley Ewing, who spearheaded the club's founding in 1926-27 — giving it an unusually tight historic and physical relationship to its namesake golf course, even though the two remain legally and administratively separate today.
