Wedgewood is one of Woodbury's defining planned developments: a master plan dating to 1984, when the golf course (then called Wedgewood Golf Course, now rebranded Prestwick Golf Club at Wedgewood) was built as the centerpiece of a new subdivision developed by Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company (today Securian Financial). The Wedgewood Homeowners Association was incorporated in 1993, and in 2003 property-management oversight passed from the original developer to a board made up of Wedgewood property owners. The community has grown to 958 custom homes, townhomes, and villas spread across 20 separate named neighborhoods, with every owner automatically a member of the mandatory Wedgewood Association -- distinct from golf club membership, which does not exist as a private product here.

The golf course itself operates as a genuinely public, daily-fee facility: a $175 season pass (2026 pricing) plus optional cart or trail passes are open to anyone, not restricted to Wedgewood residents, and the club has been rated among the Twin Cities' top public course experiences by the Star Tribune and Golf Digest. The qualifying link for a golf-oriented buyer here is not private access -- there is none to buy -- but the fact that Wedgewood's own master plan, architectural covenants, and marketing were built explicitly around the course as, in the HOA's own words, its 'crown jewel.'

Golf & Course

Designed by Kurt Sandness and opened in 1984 as Wedgewood Golf Course, the par-72 course features five sets of tees and large, undulating greens. It was rebranded Prestwick Golf Club at Wedgewood under later ownership and has been ranked a top-3 public course experience in Minnesota by the Star Tribune, with a 4.5-star Golf Digest facility rating.

Membership & Access

Does buying a home here include club membership?

No — homeownership does not automatically include membership. See details below.

There is no private membership product at Prestwick -- access is entirely public, via green fees or an annual season pass (with optional cart/trail add-ons), open to anyone regardless of address. Wedgewood residents golf under the same public terms as any visitor; the qualifying residential relevance runs through the HOA's master-plan design and shared identity with the course, not through any golf-access privilege.

Living in Prestwick Golf Club at Wedgewood

Wedgewood is a large, mature master-planned community (958 homes across 20 named neighborhoods) with a mandatory homeowners association covering parks, trails, and architectural design review through an Architectural Design Control Committee. Ownership and management passed from the original developer (Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company/Securian) to a resident-elected board in 2003.

Lifestyle & Amenities

Dining

Beyond golf, Wedgewood's master plan includes several parks, miles of walking and biking trails, and additional recreational acreage; Prestwick's clubhouse offers dining including an Italian-fusion restaurant open to the public.

Location & Surrounding Area

Woodbury sits in the southeast metro in Washington County, roughly 15-20 minutes east of downtown St. Paul -- a different metro corridor than the west-metro Lake Minnetonka cluster or the north-metro North Oaks/TPC Twin Cities pairing.
