Wilderness Ridge Country Club anchors a south Lincoln development that began assembling land in 1987, started course grading in 1998, and opened for play in August 2001, with its stone-and-timber Lodge clubhouse completed two years later. Designed by architect Jeffrey Brauer, the 18-hole championship course (7,104 yards, slope 139) incorporates natural wetlands and is paired with a 9-hole, par-32 executive course, giving the facility 27 holes in total. It is also home to the Nebraska Golf Academy and has hosted the University of Nebraska golf teams as well as national-level amateur and collegiate events.
What distinguishes Wilderness Ridge from most Lincoln golf facilities is how directly the course is woven into the surrounding residential development: the Wilderness Ridge neighborhood's streets and lots are laid out around and along the course itself, with a number of homes sited directly on golf-course lots. The club is semi-private -- its Lodge restaurant is open to the public, but golf and full club privileges require an application-based membership, separate from home ownership in the neighborhood.
Golf & Course
Jeffrey Brauer designed the 18-hole championship course, which opened in August 2001 after a multi-year land assembly and construction process beginning in 1987; the routing incorporates the site's natural wetlands and granite-boulder-lined ponds and streams. A 9-hole, par-32 executive course rounds out the facility to 27 holes. The club has hosted the Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship, the 2013 and 2014 NAIA Women's National Championship, the 2013 National Amputee Golf Association Championship, and a 2014 PGA Tour pre-qualifier, and is home to the Nebraska Golf Academy.
Membership & Access
Does buying a home here include club membership?
Wilderness Ridge is semi-private: its Lodge Restaurant and some events are open to the public, but golf membership and full club privileges are application-based, arranged through the club's Director of Membership. No evidence was found that owning a home in the Wilderness Ridge neighborhood includes, requires, or otherwise automatically confers club membership -- treat golf access and home purchase as two separate decisions until confirmed directly with the club.
Living in Wilderness Ridge Country Club
The Wilderness Ridge neighborhood in south Lincoln is built directly around and along the golf course, with streets and lots -- including a number of golf-course-frontage lots -- laid out in relation to the course's routing rather than merely nearby it. It is a non-gated, contemporary neighborhood of ranch and two-story homes with access to walking trails and parks; recent listings have included golf-course-lot homes near $1,000,000, though a reliable neighborhood-wide median was not found this session.
Location & Surrounding Area
Wilderness Ridge sits in south Lincoln, a growth corridor on the city's southern edge; the club and neighborhood are geographically distinct from, but relatively close to, Firethorn in southeast Lincoln.
