Morehead City Country Club is the Crystal Coast's only fully private country club and, on the evidence gathered this session, its strongest anchor: a members-only club with a 70-year operating history, a nationally-recognized renovation architect, and a real, recently-invested amenity base rather than just a golf course. It sits in-town in Morehead City rather than inside a single master-planned development, with the Country Club Run subdivision built directly alongside it.

Golf & Course

Established in 1954 and originally laid out by the father-son mid-Atlantic design team of William F. and David W. Gordon, the course was extended by 500 yards in 2016 by ASGCA past president John LaFoy, who preserved the original design intent while producing today's par-72, 6,761-yard, 140-slope layout with large, fast bentgrass greens. The club hosted the 2012 Carolinas Amateur Championship, a real regional competitive credential.

Membership & Access

Does buying a home here include club membership?

No — homeownership does not automatically include membership. See details below.

The club is confirmed fully private and members-only by its own site and corroborating third-party sources -- there is no public or daily-fee play. Buying a home in the adjacent Country Club Run subdivision does not confer, require, or fast-track club membership; anyone interested in membership must apply directly to the club, independent of where they live.

Living in Morehead City Country Club

Country Club Run, a 171-home single-family subdivision (plus roughly 70 townhomes) with its own separate clubhouse and community pool, sits directly beside the club, and some lots have golf-course views -- but the two are administratively and financially separate.

Lifestyle & Amenities

TennisFitness centerPoolDiningPractice facility

A 2023 clubhouse renovation added casual and fine dining, banquet space, and a rooftop lounge and patio overlooking the 9th and 18th greens with views of the Newport River and salt marshes. A 2018 pool project added a beach-entry pool. Tennis courts and a fitness center round out the amenity base, all staffed with instructors/trainers per the club's own site.
