Blowing Rock Country Club is a private club in the town of Blowing Rock, established in 1915. Its 18-hole course (6,380 yards from the championship tees, par 72) was originally designed by Seth Raynor -- the only Seth Raynor course in North Carolina -- with a second nine added in 1922. For decades the course was mistakenly credited to Donald Ross after a 1974 fire destroyed the club's clubhouse and records; a 2017 renovation led by architect Kris Spence restored Raynor-style features to several holes as part of a roughly $1.6 million project.
Golf & Course
The original nine holes were laid out by Seth Raynor in 1915, with a second nine added in 1922 and the original nine later remodeled. A 1974 clubhouse fire destroyed the club's own historical records, and for a long period the course was misattributed to Donald Ross rather than Raynor -- a documented historical correction, not a design change. In 2017, architect Kris Spence led a roughly $1.6 million renovation of five holes intended to return the course closer to its original Raynor-era design intent.
Costs & Fees
Figures below are labeled Current only when the source itself frames them as presently accurate. Everything else is labeled Historical — a source checked today does not make an old fee a current one.
Initiation (range low)
Historical$50,001
Aggregator-reported range; conflicts with a second source (ultimatemembership.pro) reporting a $47,000-$60,000 age-tiered sponsored initiation fee. A dedicated re-search this session for a tie-breaking third source found none -- the conflict remains genuinely unresolved, not simply unexamined. See initiation_fee_max and annual_dues notes.
Initiation (range high)
Historical$75,000
Aggregator-reported range; see conflicting figure below. No tie-breaking source found this session.
Annual dues
Historical$5,700
Second source reports $5,700/year dues plus a $1,200 food minimum, and a sponsored initiation fee of $60,000 (age 56+) or $47,000 (younger); a separate aggregator instead reports an initiation range of $50,001-$75,000 with dues of $5,001-$10,000. These two sources do not fully agree; both are cited here rather than arbitrarily picking one. A dedicated search this session for a third, tie-breaking source found none.
