Rolling Green Golf Club began in 1920 when Joseph E. Haines, former president of Springhaven Country Club, envisioned a club dedicated entirely to golf. Sixty prominent Delaware County residents purchased 145 acres in Springfield Township in 1924 for $150,000; William Flynn's firm (Toomey & Flynn) designed the course, which opened informally in July 1926 to over 200 members and formally that September. The club hosted the 1976 U.S. Women's Open. Membership requires sponsorship by two existing members, and the club remains deliberately golf-only -- no tennis or pool amenities.
