Thinking About Living in Windyke Country Club?

Windyke Country Club has operated in southeast Memphis since 1962, founded with an explicitly stated goal of being a family-oriented club that was 'affordable and inclusive rather than expensive and exclusive.' Its two George Cobb-designed 18-hole courses -- East and West -- anchor the club, along with a separate junior-oriented executive par-3 course.
Windyke sits in the 38125 zip code, which it shares with TPC Southwind, in an established and generally affluent part of southeast Memphis. Multiple sources confirm the club itself is not a gated community, and this research pass found no formal bundled or deeded residential development associated with it -- Windyke's qualification here rests on its real, decades-long private-club barrier to entry rather than any confirmed residential-integration relationship.
Golf & Course
Windyke's East and West Courses were both designed by George Cobb; the East Course plays to nearly 6,900 yards with a 130 slope rating. A separate, shorter executive par-3 course was built to promote junior golf. This research pass could not fully confirm the total combined hole count across all three layouts -- treat the 36-hole figure (East + West) as the club's primary course offering.
Membership & Access
Does buying a home here include club membership?
Windyke offers optional membership with tiered categories; specific initiation fees and dues were not publicly found this pass. Membership is not tied to any residential property in the surrounding neighborhood.
Lifestyle & Amenities
Beyond golf, Windyke offers dining, tennis courts and a swimming pool, along with organized men's, women's, and junior golf leagues consistent with its founding emphasis on being a family-oriented club.
Location & Surrounding Area
Windyke Country Club sits at 8535 Winchester Rd in Memphis's 38125 zip code, the same zip code as TPC Southwind, in southeast Shelby County.

What Buyers Should Verify
- Confirm current initiation fees, dues, and membership categories directly with the club -- none were publicly found this pass.
- Confirm the club's total course/hole count -- sources conflict between a 36-hole (East/West) reading and references to an additional junior-oriented executive par-3 course.
Notable
- Windyke was founded in 1962 with an explicit mission to be an affordable, family-oriented club rather than an exclusive one -- a distinct positioning from the market's more old-guard, socially exclusive clubs.
- Windyke shares the 38125 zip code with TPC Southwind but is confirmed, across multiple sources, to not itself be a gated community.
