Aldarra Golf Club vs The Plateau Club

Aldarra Golf Club and The Plateau Club are both private Sammamish-area clubs, but the comparison is really about two different philosophies of golf-community integration. Aldarra is invitation-only, limited to a select number of families, inside the gated Aldarra Estates neighborhood of large custom homes. The Plateau Club, founded two decades earlier, has a more conventional private-club application process and a course laced directly through an existing, mostly non-gated stretch of the Sammamish Plateau.

Access Model

Aldarra's membership is explicitly invitation-only and described as limited to a select number of individuals and families -- there is no standard open application route documented for it. The Plateau Club, by contrast, has a published membership office and application process (fees quoted on request), a more conventional private-club structure even though pricing is not publicly disclosed.

Neighborhood Structure

Aldarra Estates is a single, gated, purpose-built enclave of large custom homes, many with direct golf-course or greenbelt frontage, developed on the historic Boeing family's former Aldarra Farm. The Plateau Club's surrounding area is not a single gated development -- the course was routed directly through an existing, largely open Sammamish Plateau neighborhood in 1979, with only some individually gated pockets (such as the nearby Windsor Fields subdivision) sitting close by as separate developments.

Course & Architect

Aldarra is Washington's only Tom Fazio design, opened in 2001, regularly ranked among the state's finest and most exclusive courses. The Plateau Club, designed by Pacific Northwest architect John Steidel and opened in 1979, is older and reflects an earlier era of Eastside course design, with holes fit tightly among existing housing rather than land reserved in advance for the course.
