Connect With a Local Real Estate Specialist

Del Monte Golf Course is the historical root of Monterey Peninsula golf: built in 1897 to serve the grand Hotel Del Monte, it predates every other course on this list by decades and is commonly cited as the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi still operating continuously on its original site. Like its Pebble Beach Company sister courses, it is public/resort-access, not a private club, and confers no homeowner membership.

Golf & Course

Del Monte began as a 9-hole course in 1897 and expanded to 18 holes by 1902-03; early plans for what became Pebble Beach Golf Links were in fact known as 'Del Monte No. 2' before being renamed. Herbert Fowler re-routed most of the course in 1920. It has hosted the Del Monte Cup, the Pacific Coast Open, and the 1916 Western Amateur Championship (the first time that event was played west of the Continental Divide).
