Pebble Beach Golf Links is this platform's sharpest possible illustration of proximity not equaling access. It is the anchor of arguably the single most golf-significant stretch of residential coastline in the country, yet it is not a private club and confers no membership or golf privileges to nearby homeowners whatsoever -- it is a resort-operated, pay-to-play public golf course owned by the Pebble Beach Company, the same entity that controls the 17-Mile Drive toll road and much of the surrounding Del Monte Forest real estate. Homeownership in Del Monte Forest confers only a resident pass through the 17-Mile Drive gates -- not golf access.

Golf & Course

Pebble Beach Golf Links opened in 1919, designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant -- neither had prior course-design experience and both worked for free to preserve their amateur status. The course has hosted the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am every year since 1937 and multiple U.S. Opens. It remains a Pebble Beach Company resort asset, not a private club.

Membership & Access

Does buying a home here include club membership?

No — homeownership does not automatically include membership. See details below.

Anyone willing to pay the green fee can book a tee time -- there is no membership, application, or homeowner-priority structure of any kind. Resort guests (staying at The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay, or Casa Palmero) get priority advance booking windows starting up to 18 months out with the required two-night minimum stay; the general public can book a much shorter window out, subject to availability. Owning a home anywhere in Del Monte Forest, including on 17-Mile Drive itself, confers no special golf access whatsoever.

Location & Surrounding Area

Sits within the Pebble Beach Company's Del Monte Forest holdings on the Monterey Peninsula, accessed via the 17-Mile Drive scenic toll road, alongside Pebble Beach Company sister courses Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay, and Del Monte Golf Course, and near (but administratively and corporately distinct from) Cypress Point Club and Monterey Peninsula Country Club.

What Buyers Should Verify

  • Confirm current green fees and resort-guest booking windows directly with Pebble Beach Resorts -- not independently verified this session.
  • Never assume any nearby home listing's 'Pebble Beach' or '17-Mile Drive' address confers golf access -- confirm the 17-Mile Drive resident gate pass is a road-access privilege only, distinct from any golf privilege.

Notable

  • Host of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (formerly the Bing Crosby Pro-Am) every year since 1937.
  • Has hosted multiple U.S. Opens, including 1972, 1982, 1992, 2000, 2010, and 2019.
  • Owned and operated by the Pebble Beach Company, not a member-owned private club.
